Abstract
In the PhD art project “Stars in the eyes, roses on the palms – Reproducing reproduction in the absence of the original; graphic designer in the role of conservator and restorer“ I was dealing with the problem of reproducing reproduction in the absence of the original on a specific case - the tapestry made by Vanja Žanko, “Stars in the eyеs, roses on the palms”. On the basis of black and white and colour photographs of poor quality, original drawings of the artist, memories and knowledge of her family and my intuition, which was shaped by the growing up with the works of Vanja Žanko, I didn’t create an expected, but atypical reproduction of the said work. The reproduction consists of two parts. In the first part I give an example of how the damaged or destroyed works of art can be preserved using new technologies – or at least how to preserve the memory of them. I also give an example of how a message can be created – a digital message that in theory has all the attributes of the infin...ite journey through space and time, and this new message – unlike the message of the original work – can be infinitely reproduced, so that each copy bears all the characteristics of the original. In the second part of the project I deal with art documentation, by creating a map where one can follow artistic-research methods that I have used in my project
