Teorijsko polje obuhvata teorije Klod Levi Strosa (Claude Levi-Strauss), Mihaila Bahtina (Mikhail Bakhtin), Jurija Lotmana (Ю́рий Михаилович Лoтман), Eleazara Meletinskog (Елеаза́р Моисе́евич Мелети́нский), i drugih. Nikolićev narativni univerzum, u tom smislu, funkcioniše u dvostrukom stilskom registru klasicizma i modernizma. Premda svaki film počiva na nacionalnoj identitetskoj osnovi i narodnoj tradiciji, folkloru i mitskoj slici, u nekim filmovima je ta veza čvršća a u drugima slabija. „Jaka“ veza sugeriše stabilan i konkretan hronotop, a „slabija“ povezanost ukazuje na destabilisani hronotop, dok rediteljska estetika prelazi putanju od klasicizma do modernizma. Nikolićeva poetika, utemeljena u lokalnom hronotopu, predstavlja iskorak u univerzalno značenje u kontekstu preoblikovanja identiteta oslonjenog pre svega na rekonceptualizaciji mita i slike nacije. Živko Nikolić neguje modernističke teme i stil u filmovima koji odstupaju od klasične, tradicionalne fabule, te imaju nekoherentnu strukturu i priču (Jovana Lukina, Beštije), tj. razuđeni narativni univerzum. U tom ključu, autorsku poetiku i konstrukciju narativnog univerzuma analiziramo pre svega mizanscenskom analizom i određenjem vrste mizanscena (klasični, ekspresionistički ili maniristički). Rad istražuje i „dijalošku“ slojevitost Nikolićevog filmsko pripovedačkog sveta koji se razvija dijalogom/monologom sa crnogorskim identitetom, jugoslovenskom i evropskom kinematografijom, modernizmom, kao i stvaralaštvom savremenih crnogorskih i postjugoslovenskih autora.en
The topic as well as methodology of the doctoral dissertation, Narrative Universe of Zivko Nikolic: Identity, Representation, Carnivalesque, are determined by the title. The study provides analysis of the narrative universe of Zivko Nikolic, that he created in his prolific and diverse opus. The aim of the paper is to: 1) map his works as a place of defining as well as building an identity through a multi-perspective approach using comprehensive and interdisciplinary theoretical platform; 2) highlight his uniquely structured poetics and (a)typical modernistic style; 3) assert his (re) positioning and categorization within the framework of national and European cinematography. Starting with the theoretical premise of the representation of national identity, the key analytical term is the critical term Montenegrinness (inspired by the term Balkanness), which outlines the study through different theoretical frameworks and filters en-capsuled in the terms Carnivalesque and representation. Based on the research, the methodological mapping of Montenegro is accomplished by analysing the deep-rooted structure in case study narratives - Nikolic's short and feature films, as well as one TV series (Ždrijelo, Bauk, Prozor, Beštije, Jovana Lukina, Lepota poroka, Đekna još nije umrla a ka’ će ne znamo, and others) – diachronically synchronised with the author's „followers“ in the post-Yugoslav, as well as European film. The hypothesis, according to the established framework, states that the narrative universe of Zivko Nikolic, stylistically, is a mixture of classicism and modernism, is a place of remarkable creation and identity display (national, genre, authorial…). The basic identity-building processes, which result in a somewhat anagogical sense, are most comprehensively noted in the theoretical terms of the semiosphere, the binarisms of the structure of depth and the theory of Carnivalesque. The research methodology and definition of the concept of Montenegrinness as an anthropological, cultural, social, semiotic and finally an artistically transposed phenomenon, includes methods of text analysis - content, narration, structure, iconology, 4 diegesis, representation, and methods of formal analysis of screenplay and general methods of deduction and induction, diachronic and synchronic perception. The theoretical field considers theories of Claude Levi-Strauss, Mikhail Bakhtin, Yuri Lotman (Ю́рий Михаилович Лoтман), Eleazar Meletinsky (Елеаза́р Моисе́евич Мелети́нский), and others. In that sense, Nikolic's narrative universe functions within a double stylistic register of classicism and modernism. Although each film is based on national identity and folk tradition, folklore as well as mythical image, in certain films this connection appears stronger, yet weaker in others. The „strong“ connection suggests a stable and factual chronotope, whereas the „weaker“ connection indicates a destabilized chronotope. As the director's aesthetics moves from classicism to modernism, Nikolic's poetics, based on the local chronotope, suggests a step towards universal meaning in the sense of identity transformation based primarily on the myth re-conceptualization and the nation’s image. Zivko Nikolic cherishes modernist themes and style in films that deviate from the classic, traditional plot, with incoherent structure and storyline (Jovana Lukina, Beštije), i.e. a disjointed narrative universe. Hence, we analyse the author's poetics and creation of the narrative universe primarily by mise-en-scène analysis and determining the type of mise-en-scène (classical, expressionist or mannerist). The paper also explores the „dialogue“ stratification narrative world of Nikolic's film, which develops through dialogue / monologue with Montenegrin identity, Yugoslav and European cinematography, modernism, as well as the work of contemporary Montenegrin and post-Yugoslav authors.en
