The ambient installation THIS PLACE encompasses spatial interventions, sound and collages in an atypical space of a glass pavilion. The collages combine found materials such as the pieces of old working copies of various urban planning and infrastructural projects, or the clips from home magazines, with the fragments of photographs displaying contemporary suburban sites. The topic of dwelling as an intimate urge for belonging and creating one's own place is highlighted by the peculiar twitter of common swifts, the fast and resilient migratory birds that almost never touch the ground. The opposition between the solid concrete walls of residential buildings and the fragility of ozalid reproductions finds its unexpected reflection in the permanence of change as the modus vivendi of these birds. In my doctoral dissertation I discuss and contextualize the artistic procedures used at the exhibition. As a topic of artistic exploration, space is treated in my work through multisensory approach and with the acknowledgement of kinesthesia – a bodily experience of space. I describe the process of my artistic exploration as a journey between two extremes – system and coincidence. I discuss the differences between the techniques of mapping and collaging in relation to the ways the artistic expression is formed. Mapping seeks to denote (by means of projection and web creation) the objects one wants to represent. On the other hand, collage is anassemblage of various fragments the meaning of which is formed in the interaction between these elements; it thus consists of the clouds of connotation. Finally, I explain how in the artistic process I use both techniques side by side.en
